aging process

Aging is a long process that we must go through. But not everyone has the privilege to grow old or the option to rejuvenate. Dr. Villamarín considers that, to this day, and as long as the life sciences do not advance further and change this ancient conception, aging is a natural and physiological process, with a different rhythm in each living being and that we can only partially intervene in its evolution.

The changes in the face over the years are fascinating and we can summarize them in stages. Of course, there is a genetic basis and an external or environmental influence (alcohol, tobacco, sun, accidents, excessive physical and mental exhaustion, social customs, etc.), but sooner or later we will go through different stages.

Stage of the 30s

  • At this time, the skin is voluminous and smooth, without wrinkles in most of the face. However, the production of collagen and elastin slows down severely so that the turgor and elasticity of the skin slowly decreases over time. The quality of the skin and its radiance slowly fades.
  • Wrinkles appear on the forehead with gestures.
  • The first signs of dark circles and crow’s feet appear around the eyes.
  • The face has dynamic wrinkles and begins to create discreet permanent or static wrinkles.
  • To this we must add the slow development of scars such as acne and accident marks and skin discoloration.

Stage of the 40s

  • Persistent wrinkles appear on the forehead and around the eyes.
  • Dark circles (tear trough) are more pronounced.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles are permanently established (static) around the eyes at rest.
  • Some people may begin to notice bags under their eyes or a sunken sulcus.
  • The cheeks droop as they lose volume.
  • Larger pores appear on the nose.
  • Fine blood vessels appear in the cheeks and around the nasal opening (nostrils) as they dilate over the years.
  • The nasolabial fold deepens and marionette lines appear discreetly.
  • The area around the mouth and chin, in particular, begins to lose volume.
  • The jawline begins to blur, and the neck begins to droop, which can change the shape of the face and neck.
  • Some may experience the first signs of sun damage (photodamage), such as sun spots or other changes.
  • The dermis becomes thinner with more developed static wrinkles.

Stage of the 50s

  • Wrinkles are visible all over the face at rest.
  • The skin is loose around the eyes and there is sagging or excess skin on the upper eyelid and frequent bags under the eyes.
  • Significant volume is lost in the face, making the skin appear thinner.
  • Facial contours change as the bones thin and slowly sink.
  • The pull of gravity on an aging face causes ears, nose and chin, as well as cheeks, and in general the skin and localized areas of underlying fat to slip and sag.
  • The skin texture is denser, harder, rough and thick.

Stage of the 60s

  • Wrinkles are prominent on the forehead and around the eyes.
  • Nasolabial folds and marionette lines deepen.
  • the cheek sinks in and slides over the edge of the jaw to progressively droop (Jowl).
  • The eye area has prominent signs of aging with loose skin on the upper and lower lids. Crow’s feet are prominent.
  • Signs of sun damage are noticeable as dark spots all over the skin on the face and neck.

Stage of the 70s

  • A collection of wrinkles crisscross the skin in high-motion areas like around the eyes, cheeks, and mouth.
  • General atrophy of bones, muscles, fat, tooth loss, with thinning and weakness of the skin and general sagging.
  • Generalized skeletonization of the face, except for significant obesity.
